Q. What is the shelf life of your products?
A. All our products have been tested for shelf life of 18 months unopened and another year opened providing usage of clean fingers, and/or spatulas. If you find that your product has an unusual smell or if you see mold or discoloration, do not be alarmed; our natural formulas are delicate and can be affected by exposure to air and other contaminants. These instances are rare and we will be happy to replace your product.
Q. What preservatives are used in your products?
A. We do not add any artificial or chemical preservatives to our products. The only preservatives that’s we use are USDA organic honey and non-GMO vitamin E – both natural preservatives.
Q. How should I store my products?
A. We recommend storing your Honey Girl Organics products in a cool and dry place, and not above room temperature, as high temperatures might age the product. We do not recommend refrigerating the creams. Since our products do not contain any added preservatives, they should be handled with clean fingers or a spatula to avoid contamination.
Q. How are the products preserved?
A. Our creams are preserved by 1.) using packaging that prevents light from breaking down the ingredients. We use mostly glass with aluminum casing and dark glass that eliminates the light and chemical contamination 2.) by using raw unfiltered honey and beeswax in the creams (which naturally contain propolis, pollen and royal jelly) and have natural antiseptic and antibacterial properties., 3.) and in some cases the Vitamin E, which is a natural preservative is used 4.) Another big factor that adds to their longevity is that the creams are manufactured and packaged in a cool, dry and clean environment. Much like a laboratory. This helps to eliminate any outside contamination and seals a clean and dry environment into the packaged cream.
The ingredients we use that are also preservatives do a great job at helping to maintain an environment free of bacteria. Like raw fruits and veggies, our creams are better for you than the canned variety, but are also more susceptible to environmental temperature changes and contamination. When using the creams, it is best to use clean fingers or a clean spatula to prevent any contamination from occurring. Keeping them out of the sun and at room temperatures will also prolong their stability and life. The product will last at least 1 year after the jar is opened if not contaminated.
Q. Are all your products USDA Organic Certified?
A. All our products, except the After Sun Lotion, the Facial Scrub and the Rejuvenating Mask are USDA Organic Certified. That means they contain 95% or more organic ingredients. The After Sun Lotion is made with 70% organic ingredients, and the scrub & mask are both made with natural and organic ingredients.
Q. What are the ingredients in the newly USDA certified organic Honey Girl Organic creams and why do they look different on the label than the original ones?
A. Our organic skin creams still contain the beeswax, pollen, propolis, honey & royal jelly that you have come to depend on. USDA organic labeling regulations dictate that we can only list pollen, propolis and royal jelly on the ingredients panel when we add them separately, like as an extract in our Facial Toner. Q. The cream feels a bit heavy and leaves my skin greasy, is that normal?
A. Our creams are very concentrated and a little goes a long way! If you find that the product does not soak into your skin, you probably used too much. Start out with a tiny dab – you will be amazed at how little you actually need.
Q. My cream looks like it’s separating – what can I do?
A. Since we are not using any emulsifiers, separation of the oil can happen. If separation occurs in your cream jar, just stir the product with a clean spatula. If separation occurs in your lotion bottle, just shake the bottle.
Q. What is the Organic Rose Fragrance in the HoneyGlo Serum and is this from a synthetic source?
A. The rose fragrance used in the HoneyGlo Serum is not from a synthetic source.
All of our certified organic products are highly regulated and limited to being sourced from natural and organic sources. Although it’s called rose fragrance, it’s actually a certified organic floral water / hydrosol that comes from the Rosa damascena rose in Bulgaria. Hydrosols contain all of the essence of the plant, just like essential oils, but in a milder form, making them suitable for customers with extra sensitive skin.
Q. My Facial Scrub seems to have hardened in the jar?
A. This is normal since the organic coconut butter and honey is susceptible to temperature changes and may harden. You can add a couple drops of water to the scrub while its in your hand to soften it up. DO NOT add water to the jar itself, as this will dissolve the sugar and ruin the content of the jar.
Q. What packaging do you use?
A. Most of our products come in the ‘gold jars’ which are aluminum lined with glass. The facial toner & hair serum are in cobalt blue and amber glass bottles. All our plastic bottles are PET and the plastic jars are double walled polypropylene. Here’s an article stating both these plastic type of containers as safe.
Q. How does your extra sensitive products differ from the regular ones?
A. We keep on adding to our line of extra sensitive products. These products are designed for people with extra sensitivities and allergies, especially towards scents. There are no essential oils in any of our extra sensitive products.
Q: Why is there water included in the creams?
A: The water helps in the emulsification of the organic beeswax and oil. Without it the product would be very stiff, not creamy, and difficult to apply.
Q: Are your products safe to use during pregnancy?
A: As far as we know, our products are safe to use during pregnancy. The biggest issue customers sometimes have is a sensitivity to a particular essential oil. Even though the quantities of EO are very small, some customers are sensitive to them. Depending on how your body is responding to being pregnant (nausea) our products should be fine. If you have any concerns you can try our Extra Sensitive line which does not include essential oils.
